bridge among them being the leader who said "Suppose launch come I put Captain, Officers and Engineers in boat and set fire to ship. I have put kerosine in all the bolds. This was at 07.00

hours on the 16th. The launch did not come alongside and I did

not see where it went. We arrived off Tsang Chau Island at

08.00 hours when I was ordered to stop the ship and lower two

boats. This was done and I was ordered to send the Second

Officer in one of the boats with the sailors. The leader bid

me good-bye and said "I'll see you in Hongkong".

The gangway was lowered and the pirates got into the boats taking with them

a varied assortment of boxes, bundles, bags, etc., and as they

oast off from the ship they all waved their hats. I estimate

their number at 34 all of whom appeared to be armed with

automatic pistols, revolvers, daggers and choppers, added to

which are 2 revolvers and 2 Colt automatics and 738 rounds of

anmunition which were stolen from the ship. The point where

the ship stopped is about two miles from the Point, which

distance was rowed by the ship's sailors, When they landed

they sant the boats back but remained on the beach until the

boats returned to the ship. At about 09.00 hours we got under

weigh and course was set for Waglan, which place was reached

at 16.00 hours.

I signalled to the Light House that my ship had been

pirated. They asked by signal, "From where bound and to where

bound and date of occurrence. I answered and they signalled "We will wire Hongkong immediately". I then proceeded to Green

Island where I dropped the anchor and waited for the arrival

of the police who came at 20.00 hours. The position of the

ship at the commencement of the attack was 14.53 North, Longit-

ude 110.24 East the nearest point of land being Cape Sha Hoi

on the Annam coast, the distance being 73 miles.

In all I estimate that about 31 rounds of ammunition were fired by the pirates being 20 on the 13th, 5 on the 14th, 5 on the 15th, and 1 on the 16th, the rounds fired on the last 3 days being intended to terrorise the passengers. The pirates
